Marshall Goldsmith -Stakeholder Centered Coaching

MUMKIN has MGSCC certified coaches who offer executive coaching, professional development and success coaching, team management and leadership skills workshops etc. using the framework proposed by the Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching program.

What is MGSCC?

SCC or Stakeholder Centered Coaching is a term coined by Marshall Goldsmith, who came up with this coaching framework as a result of his experience of working with leaders who were willing to listen to the people around them to become even better leaders in their future. Thus, the framework is named MGSCC.

SCC is future focused, and puts great attention on stakeholders. It also believes that perception and behavior should change simultaneously. It is a practical approach where a leader improves with respect to the stakeholders. Interestingly, when people watch their leaders improving, they also start improving. It seems counterintuitive, but our experience says it works well. Throughout the process, the coach stays with the leader in the background, guiding, cheerleading and driving the whole process.

A leader improves when stakeholder’s perceptions about him changes in a positive manner. For a long lasting behavioral change, it is important that the stakeholders recognize and support the change, which is only possible if they are part of the process. The structure and guidance from the SCC framework ensure that both the leader and stakeholders go through positive change in the quest for improving the leader and significantly impact the organization as well.

The 3 Working Principles of SCC

MGSCC framework has 3 principles to take the leader from good to best.

1. Place the attention and focus on your stakeholders
2. Emphasize Feedforward
3. Change behavior and perception in parallel

The 3 Transformational Values Of A Successful Leadership

MGSCC believes the leaders who transform themselves into even better leaders practice the following three values.

1. Courage to ask others for a feedforward
2. Humility to accept the opinion of others
3. Discipline to change themselves

7 Steps to Coaching Success

This method is successful only when the leader is open to feedback and feedforward from the stakeholders and willing to bring a change based on the input. Thus the 7 steps to success start with the leader being vulnerable enough to
1. Ask for feedback from stake holders
2. Listen to it with an open mind and not in a reactionary state
3. Thank the stakeholders for their input wholeheartedly
4. Think about the feedback and the feedforward objectively
5. Respond to queries or concerns
6. Bring a change in leadership style to accommodate stakeholders’ input
7. Follow up with stakeholders to know whether the change was successful or not

How is SCC different from other coaching methods?

This method is future focused, and puts great attention on stakeholders and perception/behavior change at the same time. It is a practical approach. A leader improves with respect to the stakeholders, improving them in the process. It seems counterintuitive, but it works like a charm. The coach is in the background, guiding, cheerleading and assimilating the process.

Another differentiating factor is the feedforward mechanism. While other coaching methods rely on feedbacks, the SCC emphasizes feedforwards, which are practical and doable suggestions for future.

A leader improves when stakeholder’s perceptions about him changes in a positive manner. For a long lasting behavioral change, it is important stakeholders recognize and support the change, which is only possible if they are part of the process. The structure and guidance from the SCC method, ensures that both the leader and stakeholders go through positive change in the quest for improving the leader and significantly impact the organization as well.
